Other than a spell of Northwest wind that kicked up a chop that pushed us around a bit, the trip over from Miami was uneventful. We did see a few freighters and, comfortingly, a coast guard cutter about 2/3 of the way across.
We arrived in Alice Town, the “capital” of Bimini, after about 7 hours at sea. Two other sailboats arrived at almost the same time; Mike and Lee Ann, from Colorado, are heading toward Great Harbor in the Berry Islands; Steve and Nancy, out of Corpus Christi, are heading west to Miami. Dinner was at the Bimini Big Game Club, where we ran into and had a nice chat with Mike and Lee Ann.
Since our arrival, we have been hanging out, waiting for the wind to settle down so we can move further east. It looks like we’ll be able to move tomorrow (the 18th). We’ve occupied ourselves by swimming, (in the Ocean and in the Marina’s pool), catching up on various chores, touring a bit and messing around with other cruisers waiting to move on. Last night we had a potluck that included a lobster, chicken and pork barbecue and lots of sundowners.
